Newcastle-Under-Lyme College Going Further With PRINCE2

PRINCE2® Case Studies

NULC were delivery partners of the ESF funded Skills for Midlands Growth project when they were approached by a trade union representing 96 staff from a major financial services company facing the prospect of redundancy in June 2012. Like many colleges, NULC was able to use ESF funding to support the unemployed and those at risk of redundancy and had developed a range of training solutions to meet their needs. In this case many of the people facing redundancy were working in a project environment but did not hold the PRINCE2 qualifications being sought by potential new employers

NULC had already made the decision to work with ILX Group to expand the range of professional courses it offers and this new partnership provided an answer to the trade union's requirements. In particular, the college had been impressed by the blended delivery learning solutions that ILX could offer and the benefits blended learning posed were ideal in these unique circumstances. "It is important that colleges are flexible and responsive to local need. Here we had a group of people who were about to be made redundant. They had skills and experience but not necessarily the qualifications that would enable them to re -enter the labour market quickly. By working effectively in partnership with the company, the trade union and with ILX, NULC was able to find a training solution that suited their needs." said Val Tomlinson, Assistant Principal at NULC

The Project Management with PRINCE2 Further Education Package was conceived by ILX Group as a pilot to enable colleges to deliver public and private sector recognized, accredited project management training to attract professional and semi-professional Adult Learner.
